Project Overview

ADP Retail Systems partnered with Sam’s IGA to deliver the complete retail shelving and fixture package for a brand-new store located within an underground train station as part of the Metro Tunnel project.

The unique location presented significant logistical challenges. With the store positioned below ground and access dependent on the station environment, getting fixtures, materials and installation equipment into the site required careful planning, coordination and efficient execution.

The Brief

The project presented a unique set of challenges from the outset. Unlike a conventional supermarket fitout, the new Sam’s IGA was located within an underground train station, creating restricted access for deliveries and installation.

ADP Retail Systems provided a full suite of retail fixtures for both the Supermarket and Liquor areas, encompassing Supermarket and Liquor shelving, a Custom Retail Counter, Produce Displays, Bread Displays and more.

In addition, the counter design required full customisation to work around a challenging concrete column structure in store, required as part of the unique position of the store in an underground train station.

A key focus was developing a delivery and installation process that accounted for the restricted access, limited handling space and coordination required to move fixtures into the new store.

The Solution

ADP supplied and installed a tailored supermarket shelving solution designed around Sam’s IGA’s requirements.

The fixture package provided a clean, consistent merchandising environment while maximising the available selling space and allowing the store team flexibility in arranging and maintaining product ranges.

• Customised locally manufactured checkout counter, seamlessly designed to wrap-around internal column structure.
• Stylish Produce Display area tailored to the needs of a smaller footprint store area.
• Proven S-Mart Shelving for the Supermarket and Liquor Departments.

Working Within a Challenging Environment

The Parkville project required ADP to work within the constraints of a major infrastructure project and an underground railway station.

Access was one of the biggest challenges. Fixtures that would normally be delivered directly into a supermarket had to be carefully planned for movement into an underground location, with delivery timing, access routes and on-site handling all requiring additional coordination.

Careful planning and coordination were essential to ensure fixtures could be delivered and installed efficiently, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and working within the station environment.

ADP’s experience in retail fixture installation allowed the team to work closely with the project stakeholders, coordinate deliveries and adapt to the unique site requirements throughout the fitout.

ADP managed the fixture supply, delivery and installation as an integrated process, providing Sam’s IGA with a single point of responsibility from fixture supply through to completion.

Despite the challenges of the underground location, the result was an efficient installation and a brand-new store equipped with a practical, durable and professional merchandising solution.

The Result

The completed Sam’s IGA Parkville project delivers a modern, functional and consistent retail environment while demonstrating ADP Retail Systems’ ability to successfully deliver brand-new retail fitouts in challenging and highly constrained locations.

The custom checkout counter area was installed seamlessly around the internal concrete columns, providing an attractive focal point in the centre of the store.

The project highlights ADP’s capability to work around complex site conditions, overcome difficult access requirements, coordinate efficiently with project teams and deliver quality retail fixtures from supply through to installation.
